I'm not currently seeing the Times Square property offered when searching for your dates... are you still seeing this one on your own HOTWIRE search?

My guess for the MTE property would be The Lexington New York City.

Finally, I used the PRICELINE, and bid for $90, and got it immediately. On the HOTWIRE, the priced was listed $98, so I think it should be the same hotel.
