Please follow-up your previous Hotwire Playa del Carmen thread with whatever you ended up doing for that trip, then reply here and we'll have a look at the offer above.

Also, I believe there are more amenities then what you have posted above as HOTWIRE has a new interface that does not show the complete set of amenities unless you click thru a few extra links.

If you repeat your search using our BiddingHelper.com tool... use the HOTWIRE EASY VIEW tab and then click the GREEN BUTTON next to this listing, do you see more amenities then what you have listed above?

Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.

Thanks.

The dates in each of your posts are different... is one of them a typo, did you change your dates, or are your dates not yet firm?

Please list the details of each hotel in one thread such as:

4* Times Square - Theatre District $150

FULL AMENITIES: Fitness Center, Business Center, Internet access, Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility

This will make it easier for us to research your stay rather than have to swap back and forth between posts and reduce the chances of any mistakes being made.

What is it that you're looking for from this stay?

The new dates are the correct one- July 14th- July 21st.

We are looking for a good hotel (preffer a specious room with a king size bed, centrally located). I think that the size of the bed and the room is very important. Also it should be close to Subway station.

I wrote the 6 option i'm thinking of.

I will appriciate your help in identifing them. there are only few rooms left so the time is an issue.

Thank you very much in advance!!!

BTW- i used the link BiddingHelper.com- i saw there ameneties (which i wrote you) that didn't appear in the hotwire regular site.

Best guess/comments for each:

1. Times Square - Theatre District area -4* (163$ instead of 280$)

--> Millennium Broadway Hotel

2. Empire State Building area - 4*- (176$ instead of 275$)

--> St Giles The Court or the Carlton on Madison

3. Empire State Building area - 2.5* - (144$ instead of 217$)

--> Hotel Stanford

4. Chelsea area - 3* - (168$ instead of 234$)

90% recommended

Free Internet, Fitness Center, Restaurant(s), Business Center, Self service laundry, Accessible for the blind, In-room accessibility

--> is there also an INTERNET ACCESS amenity (in addition to the 'Free Internet' already listed)... i don't have a guess for this one

5. Times Square - Theatre District area- 3*- (144$ instead of 208$)

--> Washington Jefferson Hotel... slight chance of the Paramount

6. Midtown Central area- 3*- (167$ instead of 269$)

85% recommended

--> i'm seeing a different property offered in this zone when searching for your dates:

Free Internet

Fitness

Pool

Restaurant

Business

Hi-Speed Internet

Blind Accessible

Deaf Accessible

Travel Accessible

Room Accessible

Bathroom Accessible

Handicapped Parking

Roll-in Shower

--> if this is what you're seeing my best guess here would be the Holiday Inn New York City-Midtown-57th St

1. Why do you think it's the millenium broadway and not the crowen plaza?

I don't believe this is going to be the Crowne Plaza... the Millennium Broadway would be my best guess based upon my experience of this area.

3. Hotel Stanford don't have 95% reccomendation. Isn't it the Hampton inn MSG?

The percent recommendation shown by HOTWIRE is based upon their own customers and not related to any numbers shown on any other website, so if you are (for example) using TA to compare the percent recommendation, the methodology is flawed from the start. As far as this being the Hamtpon Inn MSG, if you're referring to the location at 116 West 31st Street, this property is not located in the ESB zone, it's in the MSG zone, so it wouldn't be this one.

Hi,

I tried to find a good deal through Hotwire but I wasn't happy with the suggestions they have for the dates above. I thought maybe for the first time use Priceline.

We are going to be (2 adults) in NYC between July 14th-21st 2014 (7 nights). We are looking for a good hotel centerally located. For us the most important is the size of the bed (we really want to find king size or 2 double beds), size of room and close to subway station.

The best for us is the times square area, empire state, soho (not china town), villige. We are open to more ideasif the hotels are good.

The maximum budget including taxes is 200$ a night. Do you think it's possible? We will appreciate your help in bidding suggestion.

Thanks!

Link to comment

I just looked and also midtowen west and midtowen east is an option. I'm just worried that midtowen eastvmight be far from the subway.

What do you think?

As mentioned before- the most important for us is a good hotel (4.5-5*) in the limitation of the budget.

Thanks!!!

Link to comment

NYC rooms are smaller than average (130-150 sq ft is not unheard of, even at the 3.5-4* level) and PRICELINE bidding only guarantees one bed. King bed or two doubles is usually an upgrade in NYC and there is no guarantee that the hotel will allow or even offer the option to you at check-in. If King Bed or two beds is a high priority, you definitely risk ending up with a room with one smaller bed when bidding in NYC. Is king bed or two doubles a must?

Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

Link to comment

It's not a must but in most 4.5-5 stars hotels it is usually a nice room with at least queen bed. We are willing to take the risk as long as it will be a nice hotel.

Btw- I wrote 4.5-5 stars hotel (this is what we are looking for) and not 3.5-4 stars. If the budget is not enough we will go down to 4*, but we prefer to stay in a higher level of hotel.

Thank you for your help!!!

I think the point was that rooms can be smaller even at the non-budget star ratings.

All 'known' 4.5* hotels in this zone are well located and near a subway station, but you could be the first to report a new hotel in the zone or a hotel that has been upgraded/downgraded since last reported to the board, so you need to be willing to accept a hotel anywhere in the zone(s) that you select (just like with room configuration/bed size, it's a calculated risk you need to be willing to accept)

Please confirm which zone(s) you want to include in your bidding and we will suggest a strategy for you to follow.

Thank you. We are willing to take the risk. If there is an hotel in one of the zones that is more risky (known in small rooms) we will take out that zone.

We want 4.5-5 * hotel in one of this zones (according to this priority) for July 14th-21st 2014.

1. Times square

2. Midtown west

3. Midtown east

4. Empire state building

5. Central park south

6. Soho

7. Chelsea

Thanks!

We want 4.5-5 * hotel...

Are you willing to pay more for a 5* vs. a 4.5* OR is the goal the least expensive 4.5* or better for this stay?

...in one of this zones (according to this priority)...

Are you willing to pay more for your first choice of zone vs. your second choice vs. your third choice, etc, etc... or is the goal the least expensive hotel at the star rating you choose (as per above) in any of these zones?

Thank you for your answer. The goal is the least expansive 4.5* or better for this stay. If the difference is around 20$ more in order to get 5* it's ok for us but we prefer not to exceed 200$ (includes taxes and fees).

As for the areas- its less important for us. Any of 4.5-5* hotels in this areas are acceptable for us.

Do you think we can get 4.5-5* hotel for the dates mentioned in this amount (200$ includ taxes and fees)?

We will appreciate your answer and reccomendation and bidding suggestion.

Btw- I saw in other suggestion you gave in the forum that you wrote after re-bid close browser and get inside again using the link. Can you explain how it is done?

Thanks!

I think it will more likely take closer to a $200/nite bid price for a 4.5* or better hotel for your dates... $200 all-in i think will likely fall a little short. If you want to give it a try:

When bidding 4.5* in NYC you have SEVEN re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Select 4.5* Soho, Chelsea, TS, MTW, MTE, ESB...

Thank you.

1. I saw that you suggested only to bid 4.5*. If I bid for 4.5 I can get 5* also?

2. If I close in 200$ - how much it will be after all the taxes and fees?

3. I will appreciate it very much if you can write all the way of bidding to 200 $. (i saw you stoped at 165$). That way I will be sure in what I'm doing. Sorry but it is difficult for the first time. :-)

I did the first step:

Select 4.5* Soho, Chelsea, TS, MTW, MTE, ESB...
Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...

I got the folowing reply from priceline:

"To Book Your Hotel Deal:
Select different areas or star levels and resubmit your offer; or Book a PRICELINE EXPRESS Deal with no bidding required!
Please note: If you change your areas, your amenities may also change."

How can I rebead without changing the areas? I just want to give a higer offer as you suggested.

Thanks,

Link to comment

If you bid for 4.5* and there is a 5* option in the zone, there is the possibility that you may be upgraded to 5*.

If you do $200 per night for these date/s, the grand total with taxes is 1698.06. You are shown the total w/taxes

You do have some time, I'd consider trying up to $165 first and then if that doesn't work, just continuing up at the same rate every step.

Thank you for sharing your win and please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.

Thank you.

When I'm re access using the code and putting inside my details all the rebid zones are already blocked because I already used them... I can't start again from 120$ and go up with the amount... So I'm now stuck in the stage of adding CPS.

Thank you and sorry for all the questions.

Link to comment

If you've used the pattern thereuare gave you, and still aren't successful up to $165, you have to wait 24 hours for the Priceline clock to reset.  Then you can continue on up, starting with the zone selection of that first $120 bid but using $165.  Then adding $45 to each of the subsequent steps.  ( You actually will reach $200 a little before all the steps are done, as you only are trying to go up $35 instead of the $45 of the initial pattern.)

Make sure you wait a full 24 hours from the last thing you did, and maybe even a few extra minutes to be sure.  If you jump in too early and get told by Priceline that you've already bid something, the clock resets and you have to now wait 24 hours from the new action.

Thank you for your answer but I still have several questions:

1. I used the strategy that thereuare gave me but I was able to do only the steps before the first time he told me the close the browser.after I closed the browser and loged in again I saw that all the rebid zones are already blocked (because I used them for the first stages). How can I follow the stratgy? What am I doing wrong?

2. Let's say that I will wait 24 hours- I can go and start again from 120 $? I don't need to go up from 165$? Just want it to be clear for me.

Thanks,

Mayan

1. Somehow you must not have gotten completely closed out.  When you successfully close the browser and re-enter, you should have a clean slate - no zones selected.  In fact, that is why you need to close the browser between steps - to get those zones un-checked that you had previously checked.  Sometimes computer systems are sort of "sticky" and hang onto things they shouldn't.

There are various ways to close out.  I usually use the little "Sign-Out" up in the header.  It starts as "Sign-In" at the beginning of a session.  After you enter your password you are signed in and it changes to say "Sign-Out", so when you click it you will be signed out.

2.  In a new session, you can start at any dollar amount you'd like - higher or lower than the previous one.  And you can go as high as you'd like, or stop when you'd like.  There is no connection between one session and a new one the next day.

For the record, I'm a member, not a board official, but I've done a lot of bidding.

Romelle
