Welcome to BetterBidding!

The Nataional Restaurant Associated convention is in town during your dates (5/17-5/20) which draws 65K attendees and causes rates to spike. Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option?

You can also try this:

Search PRICELINE EXPRESS for 5/18-5/19 and there is a 3* hotel for $87/nite with:

Free Internet in room

Indoor Pool

Free Parking

Pets Allowed

Restaurant

Business Center

Fitness Center

Search PRICELINE EXPRESS for 5/13-5/18 and there is a 3* hotel for $101/nite with:

Free Internet in room

Indoor Pool

Free Parking

Pets Allowed

Restaurant

Business Center

Fitness Center

==> these would appear to be the same hotel (very likely) but the same hotel does not appear when searching for your complete stay of 5/13-5/19. This would likely be your best bet given current rates, BUT there is always a chance that after one purchase you try to make the second purchase and receive a message that the offer is no longer available... which is why if trying this route you would want to book the longer stay first, so that if something happens with the second purchase for just one nite, it is easier to 'fill-in' just the one nite rather than still needing an additional 5 nites)

You could also book the Skokie hotel for 5/16-5/19 ($106/nite) and then something more centrally located for the beginning nites of your trip.

Thank you to you both for the replies! It's a great idea to split up the bids; I had no idea about the convention. I tried the priceline express using the links on the board and it seems that those low prices are all outside my desired area of hyde, lincoln, mccormic, loop, nma. It's my first time to chicago so i was hoping for somewhere close to a subway station and it seems the further away areas may end up being quite far from subways since the areas are so large. Any other suggestions or tips on how I can make sure the bid is near a subway?  Thanks!

You can get from O'Hare to Downtown via the train... but it's about an hour each way.

You may be able to stay in budget by staying 5/13-5/16 'downtown' and then the next three nites 5/16-5/19 by the airport.

Also, you may be able to do 5/13-5/17 at a 3* property downtown... then only two nites at the airport (and if you're flying out morning or early afternoon on the 19th, you really only have to 'commute' to the city on one day, 5/18). It's not ideal, but it's the most do-able option i see at the moment given your budget and current high rates.

Skokie is actually accessible via public transit but it's not an easy trip and there's other issues (you'll need to take a bus for part and the buses may not run later into the evening.)

For 5/13-16, less than $130 is doable for a 3* and even probably for a 4*. I'm seeing what appears to be the La Quinta Loop for $117 (which isn't the most convenient tourist location, but it's not bad, plus it's well-reviewed, a newish property and free breakfast.) There's a 4* Express Deal in the NMA area for $142.

For 5/13-17, it's going to be more difficult. I think you may be able to get a 3* in either of the two main downtown areas, but if so, it's probably going to be towards the top end of your desired budget ($120-130ish.)

For 5/17-19, the cheapest Express Deal downtown is $271. Unfortunately, there's just not anything reasonable downtown or by downtown (Lincoln Park, Evanston.) There are some very nice suburban options that are less than $100 regular rate with a shuttle, and that would take you from the nearest train station to the hotel. Or staying near the airport.

Let us know your thoughts and we would be happy to offer further suggestions.

AaronJB frequently comments that other than the convention center, there is not much around McCormick Place, so please confirm that you're comfortable in this (and the other 'suburb' zones before bidding). If you're OK with all the zones you have listed, you can begin as follows:

When bidding 3* in Chicago you have ONE re-bid zone. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

The concern for me is that the McCormick Place area has been combined with the Medical District area, which creates a gigantic area, most of which is not convenient and some really not convenient - both the medical district area and McCormick areas do not have anything much going on.

The "known" 3*'s in the McCormick area are the South Loop Hotel and the Holiday Inn Downtown. The latter would be better but there's no way to specify a particular property . The 3.5*'s in the zone are the Marriott Medical (not good in terms of location) or the Crowne Plaza (much better, as it's right outside the downtown area), but again, no way to specify a particular property.

The McCormick-Medical area is not real convenient, but it's better than the Hyde Park area - Hyde Park puts you way far South and doesn't have much at all going on.

If you could get something in the Lincoln Park area, that would be awesome. There are few hotels in the Lincoln Park area, but it's a great choice if you want a fun, neighborhood feel with tons of restaurants and shopping options. If you want to be in an area that has a lot of restaurants and is more of a neighborhood feel (and yet, isn't far from downtown and public transit is pretty easily accessible), then Lincoln Park is a worthwhile choice. The Lincoln Park Zoo is also right there, as well as the smaller Old Town neighborhood.

The bidding strategy above used different zones at different times, since you didn't include all the zones in your bidding, that is why your later bids were rejected as duplicates.

For just these three zones you'll likely need to go up to the $120-$140 range... do you want raise your maximum bid OR keep it at $95 and if rejected for these three zones then add back Hyde Park and McCormick.

Please confirm the above and we'll advise accordingly.
