Have a reservation with a hotel you are trying to bid for

Does having an existing reservation with the hotel you are trying to bid for hurt your chances?

I am trying to see if I can get a lower rate at The Benson (if I'm lucky enough to get that hotel should I win). I already made a reservation there at $113/ni (a price which is not available anymore) but I see people on the forum have gotten it at $95/ni.

I was ready to cancel my reservation, but the hotel doesnt have that $113 rate anymore, so...I don't want to lose that.

If you already have a booking at a particular hotel regular rate, that will not effect your chances when bidding (and, as you note, there's no way to know if you'll get that hotel. I would not cancel the back-up until you get something else - keep in mind with rates reported on the board if they are different dates, then they do not necessarily reflect what will be required for your date/s.

If you do win the same hotel, when cancelling the original back-up reservation i always use the reservation number rather than my name to avod any mistakes of the hotel cancelling the wrong one.
