ThunderbirdNZ
I'm in NYC from the 14th (April) and looking for a 4* for 4 nights in a good area. I haven't bid yet because I'm still coming to grips with the site. We have a 9y.o daughter so we want a room with a separate bedroom - is that called a suite in the US? And can I bid for one on Hotwire? BTW I've kinda been assuming that all hotels are close to a subway, but don't think my daughter would cope with a 15 minute walk to (and from) the subway every day (as mentioned on another thread). ThunderbirdNZ
Also, what can I expect as the 'norm' for this period? (FYI I'm planning my trip via TripAdvisor, but understanding NYC hasn't been as easy as our European vacation!) :) Link to comment
AaronJB
Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Unfortunately, one cannot bid for a hotel with specific amenities on PRICELINE (such as a suite or pool.) HOTWIRE offers suite properties (you can see a "s" suite icon), but unfortunately there have only been a few of these properties (only one at the 4* level) seen on HOTWIRE. When you search for 2 adults and 1 child on HOTWIRE for these date/s are you seeing any listings of interest with a "S" icon? What would be your desired budget per night?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches. ThunderbirdNZ
I'm in NYC 4/28-5/2 and having no luck finding cheap accom for me, wife, and daughter. (We are coming from New Zealand)Should I just be searching for 2adults instead of 2adult & 1child? Will that give me more options? My daughter is only 9 so maybe we'll get 2x Queen beds anyway? Or maybe sort something out when we check in? Or will they use that as an opportunity to 'recoup' some of what they gave away in the 'cheap' roomrate?BTW - the prices for 3-4* rooms in MTC and MTC aren't that cheap for the period I'm looking at - in fact there are now deals at all on MTC. (I've taken the advice about passing on Times Square). I want less than $300 a night... Link to comment

AaronJB
The issue with NYC properties is that rooms are often small (and sometimes tiny) and rooms with two beds are not nearly as common as rooms with one (and those rooms may ofter one smaller bed and have little or no room for a rollaway.) Rooms w/two beds often go for a premium, and while you can certainly request a room with two beds, the hotel may be unwilling or unable. You can offer to pay an "upgrade fee", which is usually the difference between the regular rate for a room with one bed and a regular rate for a room w/2 beds, but there have been instances where users have reported NYC hotels unwilling to negotiate. It can vary by the day and who you talk to. The way to ensure some sort of bedding for the entire party is to search for 2/1 on HOTWIRE. Which zones would be acceptable in NYC?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches. Link to comment
thereuare
Currently Hotwire is showing no deals for MTC, just MTE...Why not MTE? At the 4* level all of the 'known' hotels are well located for the average visitor to the city. Likewise for the ESB, CPS (and TS) zones.HOTWIRE has what i'm guessing to be the Omni Berkshire (second guess would be the W New York) for $235/nite for triple occupancy for your dates... which is within your $300/nite budget. Also, you don't necessarily need to avoid Times Square (although i could certainly understand why somebody would choose to do so), but it's not necessary to only target this area, which is what so many users who don't know the city choose to do, and we see a LOT of "I only want to stay in Times Square" threads. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. ThunderbirdNZ
thanks for this and my apologies for not replying sooner (I was out all day, till now) I have just booked the 4*MTE room @ $236 per night (+tax) and it is indeed the Omni Berkshire. I look forward to seeing what we get (2 x double beds?) and will post again when/after I'm there.... :) Link to comment

Brookelynn
I've found that calling the hotel and requesting 2 beds shortly after I've booked usually works. They may not guarantee it, but the earlier you put in the request - the better.Enjoy! Link to comment
