Welcome to Betterbidding.
The Fall period is quite expensive in NYC; what would be your desired max budget per night? Which zones would you be interested in staying within?
Additionally, there is no way to guarantee breakfast (or any specific amenity) when bidding on PRICELINE. A few hotels have been seen with a breakfast icon on HOTWIRE at times (look for the breakfast icon to guarantee a hotel with breakfast offered), but there's no guarantee that those listings may be among the ones appearing for your dates.
Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

Please look at the PRICELINE map and let us know which zones, by PRICELINE name, you're willing to accept. For the most part, at the 4* level, MTE, MTW, CPS, TS and ESB all work well for the average visitor. Although i'll point out that if "walkable to center" means you're trying to be near Times Square, there really is no reason to be, as you won't be spending most of your time there. (some parts of the above zones may be 30 minutes to walk to Times Square, but easy enough to get there from most places in these zones (at the 4* level) in 5-10 minutes via subway). See this Hotels Near Times Square thread for further thoughts in this regard.
My guess is that a $200 maximum bid will come up about $25-$50 short, but let us know if the above zones are acceptable and we'll suggest a strategy for you to try.
Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.

On a second thought - i have changed my mind. i am happy to stay in a 3*. i have seen a success for Affinia Manhattan around $100. if this hotel is decent and nicely located, then this will mean i will have more cash to spend on my shopping:)
if this is a good hotel, what should be the strategy for this?

Are you willing to accept any hotel at the 3* rating in the zone(s) that you select? Which zones are you willing to bid?
