This is the W chain’s western European flagship hotel, and it lives up to its billing. The hotel opened in October 2009. First and foremost, the service is excellent on all fronts. Their ‘Whatever/Whenever’ concierge service was excellent, recommending great local restaurants, transport options, etc. They fixed my wife’s shoes, and bought roses for our room (for a 5% surcharge).

The room itself is very modern, like many Barcelona hotels. It was relatively large, by European standards with a separate toilet and shower. The bed was soft, and even though I prefer firm mattresses, it was incredibly comfortable. You will find all the conveniences and services that one might expect from a 5-star hotel.

There is a large gym with at least 7 cardio machines and a variety of weight machines. The pool/bar area faces the beach and is very relaxing with comfy cabanas. Free wifi extends out from the lobby to the pool area.

It is over a mile to the sights of the Barri Gothic, but there are 3 bus lines that stop in front of the hotel that serve various parts of Barcelona. Plenty of taxi’s on hand at all times.
