3 stars is the highest star rating offered in this zone.

Is this a one nite stay or two? So we don't go higher than you're willing to spend, let us know your maximum bid for a 3* hotel in this zone and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.

When bidding 3* in this area you have ONE re-bid zone. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

With not much bidding history, and time on your side, i would bid as follows:

Select 3* Carteret...

Bid $35, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $38, if rejected close brower and use our link to re-access PRICELINE

After 24 hours use the links on the board to re-access PRICELINE (please return here and use board's links... not any links in any emails PRICELINE may send to you letting you know that you can bid again)

Repeat:

Select 3* Carteret...

Bid $40, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $43, if rejected close brower and use our link to re-access PRICELINE

Repeat with the following date pairs: $45/$48, $50/$53, $55/$58

If you bid every 24 hours it will take 4 days to go from $35 up to $58, if successful landing a nice deal, if not plenty of time to make alternate plans.

Any questions feel free to ask.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

A re-bid zone is a zone which only contains hotels rated lower than the star rating you have selected... you can add this zone after a rejected bid in order to bid again without waiting the normally required 24 hours. Since this zone you're adding doesn't contain any hotels which meet the minimum star level you have selected, you know you can't win a hotel in this added zone, essentially bidding only for your original zone.

See this thread: Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions. Since you're new to the concept of re-bidding, it's highly recommended you ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones before bidding. If you're confused by the information in the previous link just post back and we'll break it down further for you.

I think I understand the concept of re-bidding. Could you tell me specifically which zone can I add in my case?

You need to know how to check your re-bid zones yourself, as they need to be checked before EVERY bidding cycle to make sure nothing has changed... otherwise you could end up in a zone you didn't intend.

From Priceline Re-Bidding ExplainedThe way to check what star levels are available in each zone is to open a PRICELINE page, check ONLY the zone you are inquiring about, and then proceed to the next page (as if you were going to select a zone)... this will give you the available star ratings in that area. You can then hit BACK on your browser, uncheck the current box, check the next box, and repeat the process. It is important to do this before EACH attempt at adding a zone that you really don't want, as new hotels can be added and the star ratings can change at any time. (NOTE: for most users Priceline has updated their interface making the above process easier... simply check a zone and note the highest star rating available within each zone, UNcheck that zone and checkmark the next zone, repeating the process)

Please use the method above to determine your re-bid zones and confirm with the board, or if you're confused by the above, post back and we'll break it down further for you.

I don't think there's a whole lot of properties in the Carteret zone itself: A Radisson ($79 on regular PRICELINE); a Holiday Inn ($93 on regular PRICELINE), and, unless I am missing something in searching for nearby properties on Google Maps and other places, that may be it. (Even the Rahway properties on 1&9 are in the Edison/Woodbridge zone, and the Linden and Avenel properties (e.g. Hampton Inn near Linden Airport) appear to be outside all zone boundaries. )

If I'm right -- and someone please check on me -- I would guess that limits the likelihood of a "hit" unless you broaden your geographical area.
