  1. No problem. Looks like they have some nice choices for the South Beach leg of their trip!
  2. Thereuare, the New York City win was posted yesterday. 4.5* Rockefeller Plaza Omni Berkshire Place.
  3. It worked! It was indeed the Omni Berkshire Place. She was able to book this through BetterBidding.com's PRICELINE link and get the extra 5% discount. Thank you!
  4. Helping a friend. Found this on Priceline Express for 8/18- 8/22 2017 Rockefeller Plaza-Bryant Park, $161. With all taxes and fees $806.96. Amenities: Pets Allowed, Business Center, Restaurant, Free Internet, Fitness Center, No Smoking Rooms/Facilities. I'm guessing Omni Berkshire Place or The Sofitel, what do you think? Also, friend is in England, can she utilize the discount code?
  5. There are currently 42 hotels in NYC with resort fees. This truly is a ripoff. So buyer beware. Unfortunately, a number of good hotels are doing this. Sad.
  6. I needed two handicap accessible rooms in my group reservation so have ended up booking directly with the hotel, The Michelangelo, for this trip.
  7. 1/14 to 1/15 Times Square North Boutique $140 The Moderne Free Internet, Boutique, Smoke Free, Internet Access 85% Hotwire recommended 4.5 out of 5 TripAdvisor
  8. I'm upping my budget to $150. Will check again tomorrow and then book something. Not crazy about the Shoreham, but love the price. Thanks!
  9. I'm resurrecting this thread. If I can get a good (cheap) price we plan to stay one night, Saturday, 1/14 to 1/15, close to the theater district. I'm open to suggestions. Prefer 4* if possible. On Hotwire Hot Deals I found: 4* Times Square South, $105 (weekend rate) Free Internet, Boutique hotel, Smoke-free rooms, Restaurant(s), Internet access, Wheelchair accessible AWFUL - 35% Hotwire recommend However, 4 out of 5 on TripAdvisor Not sure this has been Id'd yet.
  10. The price was GREAT for this one, but hubby (aka Da Cheap Yankee) said our snow tires are good, so we'll risk the weather and drive in and out. If anyone else is interested in this, it's a great deal for this hotel. But we'll have to pass this time. Aaron thanks for your help!
  11. Yes, Aaron, that is the full amenity set. Apologies, and yes this is what I am looking for, hotel near the theater district, great price. Will let you know if we book it, and will book it through BetterBidding's HOTWIRE link.
  12. I wasn't planning this trip, but I have Broadway show tickets, and the weather forecast now says there may be snow that day, so I may book a room for the night. Saw this on Hotwire for $98, can you please help ID? Thanks! One night, 1/13 to 1/14, two people, $98 4.5* Times Square South Business center, Fitness center, Internet access, Pet friendly, Restaurant(s, )Self-service laundry, Smoke-free rooms Accessible for visually impaired, In-room accessibility TripAdvisor 4 out of 5.
  13. Thanks Thereuare, It's been a long time since I've had to analyze NYC hotels. I'm back in the swing of things. Thanks for your comments.
  14. What I was referring to was hotels being given higher star ratings for no apparent reason, including former 4* hotels now being ranked 4.5*. It seems to me the criteria has changed to bump up star ratings. I understand star ratings may fluctuate following a remodel, but I don't think that's the case for most of them. I used to be a New York City Destination Expert on TripAdvisor years ago, and I remember so much negative feedback about some of these hotels. Shocked they've had their star ratings elevated. A few Hotwire examples: 4* Hudson used to be 3* (Currently ranked 370 out of 477 on TripAdvisor, scathingly bad reviews, tiny rooms, has been for years. Never 4* caliber) 4* Roosevelt used to be 3* (Currently ranked 368 out of 477 on TripAdvisor, dreadful reviews, tiny rooms, has been for years. Never been 4* caliber) 4.5 * Le Parker Meridien used to be 4* 4.5* Algonquin was either 3* or 4*, I don't remember, but it wasn't 4.5* 4.5* Intercontinental the Barclay used to be 4* 4.5* Royalton used to be 4* 4.5* Sofitel used to be 4* I stayed there when it was 4* on Priceline, I think. 4.5* Novotel Times Square I recall this as being 3.5* It's always a matter of caveat emptor when buying opaque properties, all the more so now with these star ratings.
  15. I don't know if this topic has been addressed before, so excuse me if it has. But it seems like star ratings for hotels have increased, for no apparent reason. A lot of what once were 4* hotels are now 4.5*. And there are a LOT more 5* hotels out there. Did the ratings system change?
  16. Hi Roger, Just adding my two cents. I've stayed at The Grand Hyatt a number of times, I love the location and its proximity to Grand Central Terminal. That said, I would scoop up in a heartbeat the hotel that appears to be The Even. While I've never stayed there, it's a great price for a very highly rated hotel. As a value seeker, I like to get the most bang for my buck, and I think the Even is it in this case.
  17. I just ordered tickets for Hello, Dolly starring Better Midler for a group of eight. Although I am coming from Connecticut, several in my group are coming cross country for what is a once in a lifetime event for them. They've never been to NYC before. One is handicapped - my mother. To keep things manageable, I am thinking of booking three or four hotel rooms for a two night stay. Proximity to Broadway or quick cab ride away, and great hotel is key. I'd like to keep room cost to $200 per night or under. My plan is to make a fully cancelable reservation directly with a hotel for now, and keep on the lookout for a better deal on Hotwire and Priceline. That said, so far, on Hotwire, I saw a listing today and was wondering if you think it is the San Carlos. The price seems very good. 19. As our trip draws nearer, hotel prices are dropping. Tonight I saw this offer on Hot.wire, do you think it is the Palomar, or could it be something else? Thanks! Hotwire 11/9 - 11/12 Dupont Circle - Embassy Row 4.5* $127 95% recommended 4.5 on TripAdvisor Estimated Resort Fee: $45 Pet friendly, Boutique hotel, Smoke-free rooms, Fitness center, Pool(s), Restaurant(s), Business center, Internet access, Spa services, Accessible for visually impaired, Accessible for hearing impaired, Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility, Accessible bathroom, Accessible parking, Roll-in shower
  20. Although I have the Palomar tentatively booked for this trip, it's fully cancellable up to 72 hours before check in, and I am still looking for a great deal, and may have found one. Do you think this is for the Westin City Center or something else? Not wild about the reviews of this if it is the Westin. But man, the price! 21. I called Palomar reservations, being a loyalty member they offered me a Friends & Family discounted rate, so I booked the Palomar with them. Also, to appease my husband's pain of $45 a night parking, I checked online and found a nearby parking garage which charges a total of $46 for the ENTIRE three nights. The savings right there makes this a good deal. Thanks for your help and recommendation.
  22. I was ready to buy what appeared to be the Palomar but the code didn't work. I haven't given up looking for a good deal.
