We just returned from our trip to Washington, DC., and I am happy to report that the Renaissance Mayflower was an exceptional place to stay, and service was outstanding.
One note worth mentioning: When we first checked in, we received a room that was quite small in size. We later asked if we could have a larger room and the request was quickly granted without any questions.
We found that there were several great restaurants within walking distance, and the Metro was easily accessible (Orange/Blue lines within a block, and Red line about three blocks).
We would highly recommend this hotel from our experience there.

Scored the Mayflower for $140 on PL in Sept 07. Great rate for a $400+ place. Rooms were nice and updated (worthy of a 4 star rating) Looks like they redid the fitness center too. Atmosphere etc. all great, but...
One major problem: make sure your room is NOT overlooking trash alley. Otherwise expect dumpsters to be emptied around 3-4am...
I have no doubt they reserve these rooms for 'special' guests.
