Hyatt Regency McCormick (Aug/2004)
Room: (6/10) - Very basic room facility for this hotel. Room and bath room are relative small and cheaply decorated. Hallway was very noisy as the sound insulation was not sufficient. Facility: (4/10) ¡V Very basic exercise facility and small pool. This is a convention hotel that caters more for the conventions/shows crowd. Parking can be expensive. The hotel has access to train that goes to downtown. Almost no places to go other than the McCormick place. Service: (2/10) ¡V Poor service. I called several times for room services and finally after 2 hours, it is delivered but still missing items. Dining: (6/10) - This hotel has a lounge and restaurant. I only had breakfast there and the food selection was basic. Location: (7/10) ¡V If you are going to McCormick Place for conventions then this is the hotel to be in. Solider¡¦s Field and Fields Museum are nearby. Elite Treatment: (3/10) - For the Hyatt diamond amenity, during one visit did receive a large suite but facing northwest but in lower floor. Diamond amenity was denied on first stay and only provided on 2nd stay when specifically asked for. Received 6 chocolate coated strawberries but did not receive any drinks. (p.s. Hyatt no longer provides elite member benefits for priceline booking after 3/1/05) Overall: (4/10) - Note: This hotel has very expensive room rate from Hyatt.com during convention periods. The only positive about this hotel is it is next to the McCormick place. The service is the worst I have encountered among all the Hyatt hotels I have stayed. |

I stayed here one night (Thursday) for 57$/night. The area is not in the greatest area of Chicago, but it there because of convention center. There is a lot of construction in the area, so there isn't much to do at night. FREE street parking can be easily had in the streets one block north of the hotel. It didn't seem like the SAFEST place, but it was lit and many other people parked there. I drove a 98' camry there, so I didn't mind as much, but I wouldn't park your BMW 740i or your 4Runner there.
The lobby was beautiful and well decorated and the front desk person was helpful. I recieved my request for a double queen bed room. Room was clean with reasonable amenities. I received the 21st floor with a North view (view of the city, and it was beautiful). It wasn't a great 4* hotel, but great for the price (esp for a Weekday). For dinner, I drove my car to Bucktown; <-- I wasn't able to take the "L" there, because there are no stations in reasonable walking distance (plus, it didn't look so safe). The room provided high speed ETHERNET via cord for $10/24hours, which I was disappointed it wasn't offered free, but the business center was free to use (the front desk person even unlocked it for me afterhours (10pm). overall, it was a reasonable stay if staying for business reasons (except for the lack of free in-room internet), but I wouldn't pick this place if you were here for vacation.
